YOSHIDA Shigeo, Ph.D.

Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) Researcher / Interaction Designer

As a researcher and designer, Shigeo strives to develop technologies and societies that empower individuals and groups to realize their potential and capabilities through “nuanced interventions” — carefully tailored approaches that align with human intuition and avoid being intrusive. These interventions aim to augment perceptions and cognition of oneself, others, and the environment. To achieve this, he is dedicated to designing interactions — experiences arising from the exchange of information with other humans or artifacts — grounded in an understanding of human perception and cognition. In addition, he focuses on uncovering universal human traits through these interactions.

Shigeo leads the Integrated Interaction Group at OMRON SINIC X Corporation, focusing on the “integration” of multiple research domains centered around AI, including Machine Learning, Computer Vision, Robotics, and Human-Computer Interaction. The group aims to design new interactions among humans and machines (AIs) to address societal challenges and fulfill latent needs.
